Upcoming JAS Field Trips
Last minute Birdathon trip put together. Wait for me!!
I know it’s last minute notice but with Steve Roels gone and Mike Fraley still settling in to this new position as Field Trip Chair, we’ll give our friends another chance to join a Birdathon outing. Richard will be out for his annual day afield and will hopefully hit the 100 bird mark again despite the weather. For those of us who aren’t able to join him here’s another opportunity.
On Saturday, May 11th, we’ll plan a morning of birding to see how many species us “wannabes” can find. While we aren’t of the caliber of Richard and others, we’ll still go out and have some fun identifying as many of our residents as well as migrants that we can find. We’ll start with some time at Baker Wetlands, move on to the Clinton Lake State Park, likely take a side trip to view one of the eagle nests (complete with eaglets), and finish with a walk through Naismith Park in town if time allows. Should give us a variety of habitat to cover and observe and I think it will lead to some good counting results.
Plan on meeting at the old Tanger Outlet Mall parking lot just off I-70 in North Lawrence at 7:30 a.m. We’ll stay out until around Noon or later if we’re still having fun. Questions? Call me at (913) 484-8932 or e-mail at ravenlunatic@earthlink.net .
Hope to see a few of you!
